Noticing The Little Things

Life is a very chaotic place for most of us. So much going on. The bustle of our busy lives, from work, home, children, hobbies, school,education, health, and life work balance- life in general is so manic.


It seems we have no escape from it. We are on an eternal treadmill that never stops. I sometimes feel like one of those silly video clips where I can't stop incase I fall off the end.


We are always so accessible. There is no where we can be without being reached. Ever try to do an hour with your mobile phone turned off ? Maybe let it run out of charge just for an hour, we become these ogres, running around growling at the world because we can't access the internet.


What did we do without the amazing world wide web . Our lives seemed to be a lot simpler then, but was it really? Perhaps we just focused on different problems.


It is not just mobile phones, now even our watches remind us of all the uncompleted tasks or the missed phone calls. Our jewellery is even a tracking device able to tell so much about our health. Rings, bracelets , watches you name it and we have it. Do we really need all of this to monitor who we are, where we are and what we are doing ?


It all seems very overwhelming. I think it is time that for even short periods of our day that we take some time to reflect and peacefully take stock of the little things in life.


Remember we each only have 24 hours in any given day. We should not waste it all on technology. We need to once again fall in love with our surroundings. You do not have to be a naturist to see the beauty around you.


Lets begin with five minutes. Find your favourite spot outside. Maybe take a walk to the beach or a local park. Breathe in the fresh air, look around you, but properly look around you. What do you see? how does it smell? what sounds do you hear? What can you touch on your journey?


It is incredible how many little things around you go unnoticed when you have your nose in a phone. When you're swiping through posts. Your phone can not let you inhale freshly cut grass or the scent of the ocean. You can not feel the spray of the waves or the sand between your toes. You won't notice the first rose bud as it opens or the cheeping bird that has just flown past. What are you missing while you answer that email? just 24 hours.


Today I am inviting you to join me in a 30 day challenge. The challenge is free and will take no more than 5 minutes of your time.


You will need a pen, some paper and 5 maybe 10 minutes of your time.


For the next 30 days we are going to begin a new habit. This habit is called "positive aspect journal". Take five minutes and document only positive things that you are noticing about your current situation.


This is an effort to make you aware of the positivity in your life in a world of so much negativity. Noticing the little things that normally you miss. The little things that make your life amazing.
