What If I Was The Architect Of My Life ?

Wikipedia.org describes Architecture as a general term to describe buildings and other physical structures. The art and science of designing buildings and some non building structures. The style of design and method of construction of buildings and other physical structures. A unifying or coherent form or structure.

This made me think about life and how there are similarities between Architecture and life path. Sky scrapers and exquisite buildings do not just appear in our minds eye nor do they grow from the ground that surrounds them. There may be many procedures and steps to take them from start to finish but the one thing that they have in common with a life path is that they started with an idea.

Someone had a vision, perhaps even a visualisation in their mind of what they wanted to create, most likely they didn't quite know how it would all come together, but they had a belief in their idea. The how, was a minor detail that would come together piece by piece until their dream was realised.

Just as the Architect visualises an incredible structure, we visualise our life path. We do not always have the resources or the knowledge to create the life of our dreams, but that's ok because we don't need to have it all figured out right this second. We only need to have the belief that what we truly want is achievable. Just as the Architect plans and focuses on one process at a time, so must we.

An Architect uses a blue print, we too have a blue print, it's called a goal. Do you think an Architect could build such dynamic works of art without a plan? Of course not. Just as we can not possibly have the life we desire without a plan of action. We must set goals to achieve the life we want. We must have a focus that we can follow to get us to where we want to be.

We can stand at the foot of any skyscraper that inspires us, looking skyward and imagining what it ,must be like to stand at the top. None the less unless we take one tiny step inside that building we will never know, We won't know if it's too high to reach, we won't know if the view is more beautiful and we will never know if the air is fresher at that height.

Just as in life. We can set the goals, dream the dreams and feel inspired by the Authors. However if we never take the first steps, if we never make it past the planning phase , how can we ever expect to experience the excitement of the achievement?

Similarly, not every design that the Architect produces will become a masterpiece, not every goal will be a game changer. However one thing is for sure, all of the designs are a lesson to be learned. Every step we take is a step closer to the masterpiece. How many steps does it take? Who knows, it is unimportant. What is important is that you never look at the steps that didn't get you there as a failure, they are lessons. Some lessons take you forward and some are a stepping stone over a challenge that you never need to revisit.

How many challenges do you think it takes from start to finish of the awesome building that you pass every day? Take the time to look at just one, imagine the hours, days , weeks and years that it took to make that dream a reality.

Now think of your own life. It is a work in progress. Nothing come to us overnight. It takes a lifetime; and it doesn't happen by accident. Our life path is an intricate maze of choices, decisions and expectations that led us to where we are today.

What if we become the Architect of the rest of our lives? What if we design our own blueprint and began taking the necessary steps to create the masterpiece? Will there be challenges along the way? Of course there will, but at least we will have a plan as to where we want it to go. We now know the lessons we might learn, we will become more aware of the forks in the road and we will have a plan to get back on track.

We can either learn from the lessons or use them as a stepping stones to climb to the next level, so that we can experience the view from the next level of life on the road to the destiny that we are designing for ourselves.
